Description: Giovanni Battista Bononcini and his younger brother, Antonio Maria were considered by their contemporaries to be among the most outstanding cello virtuosi of their time. The elder’s virtuosity is tempered by a fluent cantabile line while the younger, in his Sonata IV of 1693 makes frequent use of double-stopping, tremolos, repeated notes and treacherously difficult echo effects.
