Description: These cantatas are from Bach’s Hamburg period, both written for the investiture of Protestant pastors. That may sound boring but these are both large-scale pieces with three trumpets, two oboes and flutes (and a pair of bassoons also in H821o) and timpani. The 1771 one features sophisticated orchestral writing while the late one (1787) is much simpler, whether because this is a characteristic of Bach’s late style or because the performers weren’t the best.
