MIECZYSLAW WEINBERG (1919-1996): Piano Trio, Op. 24, Sonatina for Violin and Piano, Op. 46, Sonata for Solo Double Bass, Op. 108.

Description: The 1945 trio shares much, including prominent references to Jewish music, with Shostakovich's trio from the previous year. Tragedy, sarcasm and idyllic beauty jostle for supremacy in the 17-minute Sonatina of 1946 while the 21-minute double bass solo sonata is a late work (1971) never published in Weinberg's lifetime but which, unlike some of his late solo instrument sonatas which could be rather abstract, there is much of the "regular" Weinberg on hearing here.
