Description: We've had religious songs by C.P.E. Bach already this month; now we have just under an hour's worth from Cornelius. Op. 2 (1854) is none other than The Lord's Prayer, using plainsong introductions and plainsong elements in the body of each of the Lieder to the composer's own texts. The Christmas songs of 1856 are also to Cornelius' own texts and written for domestic consumption while the 1849 Vergine are three Petrarch settings, the most dramatic of these songs, mixing erotic and religious imagery in laments for the poet's muse, Laura. Texts and translations available on-line. Christina Landshamer (soprano), Markus Schäfer (tenor), Hans Christoph Begemann, Mathias Hausmann (baritone), Matthias Veit (piano).
