JOSEPH CHRISTOPH KESSLER (1800-1872): 12 Études, Op. 20, Vol. 1, 24 Préludes, Op. 31.
Catalogue Number: 05P036
Label: Acte Préalable
Description: Another associate of Chopin is spotlighted by this label. Kessler was the dedicatee of Chopin's Préludes and dedicated his own Op. 31 to his famous friend. His etudes (1827) were performed by Liszt and praised by Fétis, Moscheles and Kalkbrenner. Lasting only 17 minutes in all, the Préludes (1835) are brilliant pieces in early Romantic virtuoso style while the Études take up 44 minutes, each exploring typical and atypical technical problems while ending with a nine-minute piece of calm, quiet melancholy. Magdalena Brzozowska (piano).
