GIUSEPPE CAMBINI (1746-1825): 5 Quartets for Harpsichord, Violin, Oboe and Cello, Trio No. 5 in G for Violin, Oboe and Cello, Op. 45.
Catalogue Number: 05O032
Reference: TCT 740303
Description: The quartets are rather more like sonate a tre in which the cello only occasionally departs from continuo-like duties and takes over brief duty from the harpsichord. Otherwise, these are brilliant, virtuosic pieces perfect for the French salons where they would have been performed. No date is given for their composition but one assumes the 1780s, like the companion piece which was originally written for flute, oboe and bassoon. Sans Souci Ensemble.
