ONUTE NARBUTAITE (b.1956): Tres Dei Matris Symphoniae for Chorus and Orchestra.
Catalogue Number: 05M084
Description: This powerful neo-romantic work consists of three discrete works of symphonic scope, illustrating the key episodes in the Biblical narrative of the Mother of Christ. The composer's language is rich in harmony and opulent orchestration, somewhat reminiscent of Hovhaness, with echoes of Khachaturian, Panufnik and occasionally, Messiaen. The first part (the Annunciation) is prayerful and somberly devotional; the second (the birth of Jesus) mysterious and ecstatic, while the third, an anguished Stabat Mater, recalls the Lacrymosa of Britten's War Requiem. Kaunas State Choir, Aidija Chamber Choir, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra; Robertas Servenikas.
