JAN LADISLAV DUSSEK (1760-1812): 3 String Quartets, Op. 60.
Catalogue Number: 05K045
Label: Musikmanufaktur Berlin
Reference: MMB-CD 476
Description: These are Dussek's only compositions without piano (except, of course, for his few choral works) and they date from 1806, just before the death of Prince Louis Ferdinand, in whose service Dussek had been since 1804 and whose death the year of their publication produced his most important piano sonata (the op. 61 Élégie harmonique). Coming at a time when Haydn's op. 103 had just been published, as well as Beethoven's op. 18, they are surprisingly forward-looking, with the third suggesting the early Romanticism of, say, Spohr. Camesina Quartet.
