NICOLA MATTEIS (?-after 1714): 6 Suites of Ayrs for Violin.
Catalogue Number: 05K021
Description: This Neapolitan moved to London around 1670 and helped banish the French style, introducing the passion and emotion of Italian instrumental music, especially the violin, putting the final nails into the coffin of the English viol consort. These suites of technically demanding pieces also have their share of gaiety and lyrical grace. Hélène Schmitt (violin), Gaetano Nasillo (cello), Eric Bellocq (guitar, theorbo), Jörg-Andreas Bötticher (harpsichord, organ).
