Description: The latest batch of this musical Norman Rockwell's bright, brash, eternally youthful-sounding Americana. The Encore Concerto's three movements are dance-like and highly syncopated, a slow blues and a glittering and raucous finale (this is its second recording on Albany) and the 1953 harp rhapsody are very much in the Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn on speed mode and, even though that aspect is also present in the 1970 trumpet rhapsody, this piece (written for Doc Severinsen of "The Tonight Show" fame) sometimes leads us to believe that it is made of "sterner stuff" before Gillis's natural personality gets the best of things and wins out in the end. Sinfonia Varsovia; Ian Hobson (piano). SACD hybrid
