Description: All but four of the 17 lieder here are from 1929-32 when, after the Dadaist An Anna Blume, Wolpe turned to agitprop and workers' songs (texts by Lenin and Mayakovsky among others) in everything from dodecaphonic to cabaret styles (and mixtures of both within a single song). The other four - all Brecht texts - are from 1943 or 1945 and have more Weill in them. The 25-minute Battle Piece (1943-47) was a radical break with linear composition and concentrates on spatial and vertical dimensions of music. German texts. Gunnar Brandt-Sigurdsson (tenor), Johan Bossers (piano).
