LODOVICO ROCCA (1895-1986): Monte Ivnor.
Catalogue Number: 05J078
Description: Premiered in Rome in 1939, this opera is based on Franz Werfel's "The Forty Days of Musa Dagh", a novel about the successful defense of a besieged town in 1915 during the Armenian Genocide (which makes it particularly interesting that a Turkish soprano is the star in this performance). Rocca's immediatly approachable and attractive music is an eclectic amalgam of Puccini, Zandonai and other Italian contemporaries. 2 CDs. No libretto. Anselmo Colzani (baritone), Leyla Gencer (soprano), Renato Gavarini (tenor), Orchestra and Chorus of RAI Milan; Armando La Rosa Parodi. Rec. 10/17/57.
