Description: Collectors of Anima Eterna's recordings of mid to late 19th century orchestral music on authentic instruments will want this period instrument recording which not only contains the well-known Arlésienne suites, the former rescored by Bizet for the Pasdeloup Orchestra and the latter after his death by Ernest Guiraud, but also a suite of eight items in their original, 1872 scoring (which has quite a few more than subtle differences from both Bizet's rescoring and Guiraud). In addition, the CD comes in a 120-page bound hardback book full of full-color photographs and reproductions of paintings by Gauguin and Van Gogh of sites in and around Arles and of modern works by Francis Bacon and Joan Mitchell inspired by Van Gogh. Lyon National Opera Chorus, Les Musiciens du Louvre Grenoble; Marc Minkowski.
