GEORG TINTNER (1917-1999): Violin Sonata (Cho-Liang Lin [violin]), Piano Sonata in F Minor, Variations on a Theme of Chopin, Prelude - Sensucht, Auf den Tod eines Freundes, 2 Fugues, Trauermusik.
Catalogue Number: 05I078
Description: Most of these pieces were composed before Tintner fled the Nazis in 1938, the short, ten-minute sonata which brings together Chopin, Scriabin and Brahms probably dating from his mid-teens. These are tonal works and easily approachable whereas the large-scale piece here, the violin sonata (1944) uses atonality and serialism (first experimented with in the 1939 Trauermusik) as well as including several passages of lyrical beauty. Helen Huang (piano).
