Description: Both Ford and Cellier (brother of Alfred, whose Dorothy appeared on Naxos last January - 01U029 - and the collaboration with W.S. Gilbert The Mountebanks on Dutton in 2018 - 05T041) had strong relationships with Sullivan, both having been associated with the Savoy Theatre and the former with the D’Oyly Carte company. Cellier’s operetta comes from 1891 and Ford’s from 1892. This version of Sullivan’s light opera supersedes the 20-year-old recording on Divine Art by The Prince Consort. The 36-page booklet has detailed synopses of all three works and libretti are available as PDFs on the Dutton Vocalion website. Libretti available online. Ed Lyon (tenor), Henry Waddington (bass-baritone), Eleanor Dennis (soprano), Fiona Kimm (mezzo), BBC Singers, BBC Concert Orchestra; John Andrews.
