Description: Popper’s four concertos span the periood from 1871 to 1900. Each shares a lyrical Romantic spirit: the playful First, an enjoyable prelude to the more dramatic and virtuosic Second, and the single-movement Third, a masterpiece in melodic compactness. The Fourth was dedicated to ‘my great colleague’ Alfredo Piatti and is recorded here in its version with piano. Martin Rummell (cello), Mari Kato (piano), Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice; Tecwyn Evans.
