Catalogue Number: 04R011
Reference: CHR 77389
Description: Bollius was an early German exponent of the new, Montiverdian Italian style. This oratorio, dating from somewhere between 1618 and 1628, on the conception and birth of St John the Baptist has close ties with Cavalieri’s Rappresentatione di Anima, et di Corpo. It is tonally and technically speaking a highly diverse composition of intense expressiveness and oriented towards the new Italian operatic style and is considered the first ever oratorio to be written by a German composer. No texts. Simone Schwark (soprano), Johanna Krell (mezzo), Rolf Ehlers, Georg Poplutz (tenors), Johann Rosenmüller Esnsemble; Arno Paduch.
