Description: Character pieces from a variety of New England composers prominent in the last third of the 19th century, in form following Schumann and Brahms and partially in style also but imbued with a charm personal to each of their creators. Some of these pieces may have been recorded before but none on a piano corresponding not only chronologically but also geographically to the period (Chickering was a Boston firm which was the leading American piano manufacturer for much of the 19th century). We also meet a composer new to us, Arthur Whiting, a student of Chadwick and Rheinberger. Artem Belogurov (1873 Chickering piano).
