Description: These rare works are all examples of young virtuoso pianist-composers writing for themselves and a friendly rival to perform in public: Hiller with Chopin in 1835, Chopin with Julian Fontana in 1828, Liszt with Chopin in 1834 while the Weber-sourced Duo Concertant was not only played by but composed by Mendelssohn and Moscheles in 1833 while the latter's Hommage à Handel is a reworking of a movement from a collaborative sonata with Johann Baptist Cramer of 1822. As often, the period pianos make all the difference in such early Romantic repertoire. Riko Fukuda & Tobias Koch (1830 & 1835 Graf fortepianos).
