FRIEDRICH KUHLAU (1786-1832): Piano Quartets No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 32 and No. 2 in A, Op. 50.

Description: This release replaces the out-of-print 1997 Dacapo and 1994 Marco Polo versions of works from 1821 and 1823 which are steeped in Mozart and Beethoven but which are a link to Schumann in their early Romanticism. They are full-size too: three movements and 34 minutes and four movements and 39 minutes respectively while Kuhlau's skills as a concert pianist are manifest throughout. He wrote his flute sonatas and piano sonatinas for money; these quartets are for professional players. Copenhagen Piano Quartet.
