Description: Weber's first operatic success, in only its second recording (the 1997 Marco Polo is long out of print), was composed between 1808-10 and premiered in the latter year. This release is the World Premiere Recording of the original 1810 version. The forest scenes have some of Weber's most inspired music, suggesting a inspiration by nature which reached its climax in Der Freischütz; though the music is that of a very young composer, many glimpses of the mature Weber are on view in some sensitive and colorful orchestration. 2 CDs.
