Description: Those of you who bought the Cameo Classics disc with Jadassohn's First will find more delights here. The First (1860) and Second (1863) are in the vein of Schumann, brisk, rhythmically exciting, plenty of prominent winds and brass and not very long getting on with it (21 minutes for the first, this performance shaving off over three minutes from the Cameo version, and 29 for the Second). The Third (1876) goes minor key and dramatic, a little Brahmsian but keeping it brisk at 28 minutes while the Fourth of 1888 is a synthesis of all the first three, topping out at 30 minutes. No bloating or bloviating anywhere to be found. The two Cavatinas (1882 and 1894, the latter Jadassohn's last orchestral work) are nine-minute lyrical effusions whose memorable melodies will stay with you for a while. A high Romantic bonanza! 2 CDs. Klaudyna Schulze-Broniewska (violin), Thomas Georgi (cello), Brandenburg State Orchestra; Howard Griffiths.
