ALVIN LUCIER (b.1931): Vespers, ROBERT ASHLEY (b.1930): Purposeful Lady Slow Afternoon, DAVID BEHRMAN (b.1937): Runthrough, GORDON MUMMA (b.1935): Hornpipe, Electronic experimentation from a 1972 LP: Lucier's piece is described as "Acoustic orentation by means of echolocation, for players with hand-held echolocation devices"; Ashley's an excerpt from Wolfman Motorcity Revue ("Electronic Music Theater") with three singers (Mary Ashley, Barbara Lloyd and Mary Lucier) and speaker (Cynthia Liddell); Behrman's was "Made for the Sonic Arts Union, used homemade synth modules and photocell mixers to distrubute sound around a four-channel loudspeaker system" and Mumma plays French horn in his "Electronic music for a cybersonic French horn". Original liner notes by the composers. CHARLES IVES (1874-1954): Piano Sonata No. 2 "Concord, mass., 1840-1860". Aloys Kontarsky (piano), Theo Plümacher (viola), Willy Schwegler (flute). 1962 LP release - only 23 years after the piece was first performed. With the original liner notes (by Hans G. Helms) which run to almost 8 pages and which are a fascinating historical document in their own right.
