Description: This 1898 melodrama, set in Japan, had only the CBS Domingo recording from 1989 in its official discography until now. Reviews of the latter stressed the work’s formal innovative and experimental aspects and use of authentic Japanese instruments for color. Harmonic delicacy and attractive lyricism add to the pleasures and make for an opera well worth rediscovering.
