JOHN WORGAN (1724-1790): Organ Pieces 1-15.
Catalogue Number: 03R023
Label: Toccata Classics
Reference: TOCC 0332
Description: One of the most highly respected musicians in London, organist at Vauxhall Gardens and several London churches (including on the organ of the very church in which this recording was made, on a newly restored instrument), composer of many songs and a couple of oratorios, Worgan is completely unknown today. The purpose of these pieces is unknown (church use, teaching?) and they were published only after his death by his fifth son but they provide an authentic snapshot of musical life in the London of Handel and Arne. Timothy Roberts (organ of St Botolph’s without Aldgate, London).
