Description: Only P.108-110 are dated (two from 1773 and the other from 1784) but the C major work inspired Mozart to write his first quintet, K174 (also in 1773), so the style and affect of these works can be easily surmised. The other two are from around 1786, having been published under the label Divertimento: two big shambling and amiable creatures with six movements (the B Flat) and seven, allowing for two minuets and two variation movements attached to the usual four and with short Marcia appended to the finale of P.112. We offered a 1990 recording of these, also on period instruments, back in 2001 (now out of print); that added a double bass to the string quintet while this one does not. 2 CDs. Salzburg Haydn Quintet.
