Description: If you're looking for barbaric folk music on this disc of Serbian piano music, you'll find it - but only in the ten minute sequence of Tajcevic's Balkan Dances of 1926. The main work is the 44-minute cycle of Cameos by Milojevic (1937-42), works inspired partly by art (Rodin's Thinker, Goya, Degas, Sisley and Pizarro) and partly by personal experience (a big Passacaglia on a theme by Johann Krieger which is the subject of "Cologne Cathedral on the Rhine"; the Père Lachaise cemetary). The music is a mixture of Impressionism, neo-Classicism and a harder-edged expressionism. Tijana Andrejic (piano).
