Description: Repertoire collectors will chafe at the program - Hough's work takes up only 16 of the disc's 67 minutes - but if you've been following this pianist's late composing career, you'll want this heart-felt elegy. The other two works here were reactions to the First World War; Hough's was inspired by a poem by a survivor of that war, Herbert Read. Adorned with some lovely melodic invention, it fits well stylistically with both Bridge and, in its hints of what used to be called "oriental music", Bloch as well. Steven Isserlis (cello). Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin; Hugh Wolff, Tapiola Sinfonietta; Gábor Takács-Nagy (Wilderness). SACD hybrid.
