Description: We offer this, of course, for the Valen pieces, the two most substantial of which are the 1911 Psalm and the 1915-32 Ave Maria, which involve orchestra. The Psalm exhibits the tension of that period between late Romanticism and the exploration of the more outer limits of harmony; the Ave Maria could be compared stylistically to Berg's Altenberglieder while the two a cappella choral pieces from 1930 and 1937 are more conservative, possibly due to their religiously affiliated texts. French, German, Norwegian-English texts. The Norwegian Soloists' Choir, Berit Norbakken Solset (soprano), Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Members of the Oslo Sinfonietta; Grete Pedersen. SACD hybrid
