Description: Vol. 9 of this series finally reaches some unusual repertoire again: Milhaud's 1924 work may be surprising for its lack of jazz, polytonality or South American elements; it's mostly an ironic mixture of French operetta and music-hall. Sauguet's score comes from 1927 and, again, surprised contempories with its neo-Romantic euphony (although the costumes and set design were quite angular and avant-garde: the booklet has separate notes on music and on costumes and set). Tommasini's suite from his score premiered in 1917 fills out a 73-minute disc. Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserlsautern; Robert Reimer.
