Description: Unlike Hyperion's piano series, this one is not delving deep into unknown repertoire but at least the Schoeck is a fairly unheard concerto, inspired in 1910 by the same violin-siren who inflamed Bartók (Steffi Geyer). Lasting some 34 minutes, its title covers over the young Schoeck's consciousness of formal deficiences while stylistically it is in the tradition of Brahms, Bruch and Reger with qualities of bittersweet lyricism later to be found often in his songs. Chloë Hanslip (violin), Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana; Alexander Vedernikov.
