Description: Although there are a few other recordings on disc, Glazunov's two back-to-back sonatas from 1901 are not so well-known that another good recording isn't necessary. The First's level of difficulty is demonstrated by Felix Blumenthal's transcription of it for two pianos while the Second is notable for its passionate first movement's lush harmonies and the treacherous technical demands of its scherzo. Martin Cousin (piano).
