Description: Over half the music here wasn't even published until 1948, works written between the ages of 13 and 18, which are in the salon style but which bely their author's age at every step. The "mature" works include a very rare genre for France of his day - the very original Variations chromatiques, a very atmospheric and stormy Nocturne (in F) and a six-movement tone-picture (Les Chants) based on a contemporary poet. Everything here except the L'Arlesienne suites was on a 1984 Harmonia Mundi release reissued in these pages in August 2005 (08H053), while a single-disc Pavane new release of Sept. 2007 (09J043) had some of these items but also four world premieres which are not on this disc. 2 CDs. Julia Severus (piano).
