Catalogue Number: 03K030
Description: This is brand-new, recorded last year and part of what will be an ongoing series of rare Haydn which BIS will do with Huss and his orchestra. Acide is a fragment of a festa teatrale - Haydn's first Italian opera, composed for the wedding of Prince Eszterházy's eldest son in 1763. Portions of this one-act opera were lost and Haydn decided to revise the work in 1773 but this was never performed. New pieces written for the latter production are combined with the surviving originals in this 70-minute hybrid rendition. Italian-English texts. Bernard Richter (tenor), Rafaella Milanesi, Jennifer O'Laughlin (sopranos), Iván Paley (baritone), Adrineh Simonian (mezzo), Haydn Sinfonietta Wien; Manfred Huss. A SACD hybrid.
