Description: Collectors will fondly remember this series begun by the defunct Koch Schwann label back in the mid 90s. On period instruments, it was one of the first seemingly serious efforts to explore over a series of recordings some of Haydn's least well-known chamber works of divertimento and/or serenade style. The Notturni, written in 1790 for the King of Naples, are every bit the equal of Mozart's divertimenti and notturni while the concerti for the lire organizzti (also for the Neapolitan monarch), which we just offered last month on modern instruments on Naxos, have music which was later used in three of Haydn's Paris and London symphonies. Conductor Huss provides brand-new notes (16 pages) for this reissue which includes four Notturni which didn't make it out before Universal Classics, finding out only after the fact that they'd purchased a classical music label along with the pop music KOCH music company, killed Schwann. 6 CDs for the price of 3. Haydn Sinfonietta Wien; Manfred Huss. Original 1994-97 Koch Schwann releases (except Notturni Nos. 2, 4, 5 & 8 which were never previously released).
