KAZIMIERZ SEROCKI (1922-1981): Romantic Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, TADEUSZ BAIRD (1928-1981): Piano Concerto, JAN KRENZ (b.1926): Concertino for Piano and Orchestra.
Catalogue Number: 03K013
Description: These three young composers formed the "Group of 49" in 1949 as a means to help them work through the new Socialist Realism dictates to artists in Poland. Written between 1949-52, these concertos use folk techniques and/or motifs as subtle coloring in what are broadly neo-classically styled works with Krenz being the lightest in wit and grace and Serocki's more substantial piece containing more assertive, almost violent, manners and approaching Ravel in its depth of emotional utterance. Utterly approachable and sure to delight 20th century piano concerto collectors. Adam Wodnicki (piano), National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Katowice; Tadeusz Wojciechowski, Jerzy Swoboda (Baird).
