KRZYSZTOF PENDERECKI (b.1933): Adagietto from Paradise Lost for English Horn and Strings, Chaconne in memoria del Giovanni Paolo II, Agnus Dei from Requiem (version by Boris Pergamenchikov for Strings), Intermezzo for 24 Strings, Serenade for Strings, 3 Pieces in Baroque Style, Sinfonietta for Strings.
Catalogue Number: 03K012
Description: These works for string orchestra include three arrangements (the Adagietto is particularly appealing) and are mostly confined to Penderecki's late, neo-Romantic period. Only the 1973 Intermezzo comes from his "avant-garde" days and serves as a nugget of spice at the center of the program (although the violence with which the 1992 Sinfonietta opens shows plenty of teeth left in the Polish composer at the beginning of his late style). Sinfonia Varsovia; Krzysztof Penderecki.
