Description: Wind band collectors interested in the Carmen Symphony can be told that it's in 12 "scenes", in the same order as they occur in the opera, the whole thing lasts 34 minutes and Serebrier put it together for symphony orchestra; the wind band transcription was done by a master sergeant about whom there's not a peep in the notes and bios. If, however, you're buying it because you're a Villa-Lobos collector, his 16-minute suite is one of the very last things he wrote, having been premiered in July of 1959, just months before his death. Villa-Lobos used wind instruments a lot throughout his career and his style is evident from the very first bars in this attractive and relaxed three-movement work. "The President's Own" United States Marine Band; José Serebrier.
