Description: These are Lachner's complete organ works, the sonatas all published in 1877 and the others unpublished. Lachner taught Rheinberger and both indicate similar registrations although Lachner's music is quite unlike either Rheinberger's or Mendels-sohn (who invented the organ sonata). Notated on only two staves, put together from previously existing short pieces, these are rather like Impromtpus with the same predilection for melancholy and elegy as Schubert's works in that genre. Rudolf Innig (Walcker organ of Stadtkirche St. Jakobus, Ilmenau).
