Description: Sacred music from Naples in the first half of the 17th century, with Leo's Salve relying completely on vocal expressivity, Pergolesi employing opera buffa, opera seria, strict polyphony and popular music in his very late setting. Leo's Miserere is in the "Palestrinian Reform" style and Jommelli, the latest work here (1759), employs dissonance and chromaticism to underline the expressivity of the text.
