Description: This most unusual coupling of purely orchestral symphonies based on the Ordinary of the Catholic Mass brings works by two neo-Romantic composers, both in their late 20s at the time of composition and both of which use the same traditional plainchant in the Gloria but which are substantially different in style and impact. Flagello, as should be well-known by now, followed the rich and opulent romanticism of Menotti and Barber while Rosner's more modally-inflected work immediately suggests Hovhaness.
