Catalogue Number: 03I080
Label: Dutton Epoch
Description: Alwyn himself was a flutist and wrote for the instrument throughout his career but only Naiades (1971) is in the current catalogues. The French Suite of 1937 is based on airs taken from a 1729 French anthology; this and the remainder of these works (the concerto is the latest, coming from 1980) show both Alwyn's mastery of the instrument and his knowledge of its many capabilities. Philippa Davies (flute), The Nash Ensemble.
