Description: A bright, spirited setting of three carols (1969) is followed by what is in effect an operatic scena full of grief, despair, remorse and violence (1972), setting a medieval Welsh poem, before the main work, a 49-minute cantata which uses various 14th-16th century English sacred and secular texts to depict the four seasons in music of great pictorial beauty and often dramatic splendor which recalls at times the Tippett of Midsummer Marriage and the Britten of War Requiem and Spring Symphony. Texts included. Original 1994 Lyrita CD issue.
