Description: Attractive, tonal works which will readily appeal to anyone who enjoys the Poulenc Flute Sonata, the Berkeley Sonatina or anything James Galway ever played as an encore. The Suite consists of five appealing movements in a very neo-Romantic style with more than a suggestion of Impressionism. The light, lively Sonata also has a French style, with wit, charm and Gallic elegance on display throughout its four movements. The two fantasias are variations in a popular lyrical style, one on a religious song from the ecumenical monastic fraternity in Taizé, France, the other on themes by Arnold Roth, American composer of music for animated entertainments. Sonata Medjugorska is a tuneful three-movement work incorporating a hymn tune from Međugorje, a place of Catholic pilgrimage in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a meditative slow movement and a flowing rondo-finale. Krzysztof Maciej Kaczka (flute), Tatiana Chernichka (piano).
