ANTON RUBINSTEIN (1829-1894): Piano Sonatas No. 1 in E Minor, Op. 12 and No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 20, 3 Serenades, Op. 22.
Catalogue Number: 02V039
Description: Rubinstein was, by general consensus, the greatest pianist since Liszt and the demands made on the performer have led to very few recordings especially of his sonatas. His musical style shows the heavy influence of Mendelssohn and Schumann. The four sonatas, for all the signs of derivation from time to time, are forthright, effective, and often original pieces; the two here date from 1847/8 and 1852-54. Han Chen (piano).
