Description: A “Russian Futurism” recital, almost everything in the “machine music” genre of the teens and 20s, although Popov (1928) gives us two rather late-Romantic sounding movements (Cor and Lied) between his percussive Invention and Fuga. The other rarity is the seven-movement “Beyond” by Rebikov which dates from around 1913. Inspired by Goya, it’s a mixture of primitivism and symbolsm and is a valuable 13-minute addition to the only all-Rebikov CD still available, Anthony Goldstone’s disc from 2010 on Divine Art (05L072). Yury Favorin (piano).
