Description: This Swiss concert pianist was a chameleon as a composer, adopting stylistic elements of important composers with whom he came into contact as he went through life. Rather than a chronological approach, this series provides examples of each of the four major stylistic periods Frey went through: French Impressionism via Widor and Fauré (the Berceuse), Romanian folklore via Enescu (the Humoreske and Variations), Russian music via Scriabin, Medtner (the Sonata dramatica) and Prokofiev (the “Little Slavic Suite”) and German/Austrian music via the Second Viennese School, Hindemith and Reger (the Passacaglia). Luisa Splett (piano).
