Description: This series continues with Roussel’s next-best-thing-to-a-sonata - the four-movement, 25-minute suite of 1910 whose movements have neo-baroque titles but which is a deeply serious, often gripping and dramatic work. As is the composer’s own transcription of the 1903 Résurrection while the Rustiques (1904 and 1906) are romantic nature pictures and the 1898 heures is a short, stylistically heterogeneous four-movement cycle where the young Roussel experiments with various influences. Jean-Pierre Armengaud (piano).
