PIERRE BOULEZ (b.1925): Domaines, GIACINTO SCELSI (1905-1988): Ixor, HORATIU RADULESCU (1942-2008): The Inner Time.

Description: The main work here is the solo clarinet version (as distinct from versions for various other combinations of instruments) of Radulescu's The Inner Time. The work is an homage to Alexander Calder's sculptural mobiles, and is based on the partials of the harmonic spectrum of a low fundamental note, which implies very small subdivisions of the octave, the more so the higher the register. These are precisely notated, and played using only harmonics, multiphonics and extended techniques in complex rhythmic patterns of trills, runs and tremolandi. Roger Heaton (clarinet).
