Description: Written in 1931 and 1937 while he was engaged in folk-song collecting, Veress' quartets feature the folk impulse along with more modernist tendencies, especially in dissonance while the concerto dates from his mature years of statelessness in Switzerland (1961). It belongs to a genre possibly started by Martinu and it has concerto-grosso elements but much more than that in terms of formal invention.
